The first iPhone X jailbreak is available right now, but it’s not all good news

There’s hardly a reason to jailbreak the iPhone if you ask me, but there are plenty of people who think otherwise. A few weeks ago, we learned that the iPhone X security can be broken, and jailbreaks are possible. At the time, however, the jailbreak was not shared with the community.

Since then, someone else managed to jailbreak the phone and released a public version for it. Called LiberiOS, the jailbreak works on iOS 11.1.2 devices, including the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and older models. However, it’s not all good news.

First of all, this isn’t an untethered jailbreak, the kind of jailbreak users really want, since it doesn’t involve a computer. Furthermore, the hack only works on iOS 11.0 and iOS 11.1.2, which are software releases that are no longer signed by Apple. If you’re on iOS 11.2 or later, you’re out of luck, RedmondPie explains.

But even if you can use LiberiOS to jailbreak your device, there doesn’t seem to be a point of doing it at this time. Cydia, the app store for jailbroken iPhones, doesn’t work on the 64-bit only iOS 11, which means you can’t load any iOS apps that are only found in this unofficial application repository.

If you do want to jailbreak your brand new iPhone X or any other iOS device that wasn’t upgraded to iOS 11.2 or later, you should check out the tutorial at this link. Remember to back up your data first, and that you’re the only person responsible for whatever happens to your iOS devices during such procedures.

Gayle and WI need to break out of the funk

Big picture

It may just be arbitrary – an illusion of time even – but a new year can have a remarkable effect. Ask West Indies. They ushered in 2017 with their trophy cabinet bursting at the seams. Then they were booted out of an ICC tournament. They will have to play fringe teams in international cricket to qualify for the next World Cup. And, on the basis of their performance on Friday, even their often infallible T20 game needs work.

If West Indies concede the match on January 1, they will have to return home with nothing to show for their stay in New Zealand and the only people that would be feeling worse than Stuart Law, Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite would be those who had ended up as designated drivers the previous night. So the Bay Oval better prepare itself. It’ll be hosting a hurt world-champion side looking for revenge.

New Zealand may sympathise – they are apparently the nice guys of this sport, even if their bowlers keep picking up seven-fors and their fielders take leave of gravity to snaffle impossible catches – but, with their captain Kane Williamson returning, they won’t offer much quarter. They’ve written the book on winning matches without too many star players. And it isn’t a complicated read either: have plans at the ready, ensure the players buy into that and can execute them under pressure. They’ll get plenty of practice in that regard coming up against a team that has nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain.

Form guide

New Zealand: WLWLL
West Indies: LWWWW

The perfect on-drive from Martin Guptill © BCCI

In the spotlight

With so many of West Indies’ frontline players in T20 cricket missing, it may be time Chris Gayle produces one of his single-handed demolition jobs. Not so long ago, after winning the Bangladesh Premier League, he proclaimed that he was the best to ever play the game. He would be able to lend that statement a little more oomph if he were to, say, beat an international team.

New Zealand have their own marauder at the top, even if he is coming off a break. Martin Guptill. An average above 30 and a strike-rate of 130 suggests he likes playing longish innings even in the shortest format and should he do so in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand’s job of winning a third successive trophy, and staying on course for a tour-wide whitewash, will get a little bit easier.

Team news

Ross Taylor won’t be in action on Monday; he was only picked for the first T20I. Williamson will take his place.

New Zealand (probable): 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Colin Munro, 3 Kane Williamson (capt), 4 Glenn Phillips (wk), 5 Henry Nicholls, 6 Tom Bruce, 7 Mitchell Santner, 8 Doug Bracewell/ Lockie Ferguson, 9 Seth Rance, 10 Tim Southee, 11 Ish Sodhi

There may be some thought about bringing in Shimron Hetmyer into the batting line-up and Sheldon Cottrell into the bowling attack simply for the sake of variety.

West Indies (probable): 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Chadwick Walton, 3 Andre Fletcher/ Shimron Hetmyer, 4 Shai Hope (wk), 5 Jason Mohammed, 6 Rovman Powell, 7 Carlos Brathwaite (capt.), 8 Ashley Nurse, 9 Samuel Badree, 10 Jerome Taylor/ Sheldon Cottrell, 11 Kesrick Williams

Pitch and conditions

There have been three T20Is at Bay Oval and runs have so far come by at a rate of 8 and above. Perfect conditions for a Gayle storm. The actual weather, though, is expected to be cloudy, with the possibility of showers late in the night.

Stats and trivia

  • Williamson goes into the T20I with 133 fours, three less than Gayle. Of course, Gayle (103) has hit six times as many sixes as Williamson (16) has
  • New Zealand have never lost a T20I in Mount Maunganui – and over their last 12 matches at home, they’ve only lost two
  • Under the condition of at least 100 overs bowled, Samuel Badree has the second-best economy rate in T20Is; his figure of 5.78 is only just behind Daniel Vettori’s 5.70

Quotes

“Fantastic player, probably the best T20 record in the game and can take the game away at any time”
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson on the threat of Chris Gayle.

CBFC clears Bollywood movie ‘Padmavati’, objectors say protests to continue

MUMBAI (Reuters) – India’s censors on Saturday cleared a controversial film backed by Viacom Inc that looks into the relationship of a Hindu queen and a Muslim ruler, after suggesting some modifications.

The Bollywood film, which was slated to be released on Dec. 1, was indefinitely postponed by a studio run by a partnership of Viacom and Network 18 owned by Mumbai’s Reliance Industries. That followed a row over its historical content, in states such as Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

Members of hardline Hindu fringe groups as well as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had criticized the film “Padmavati”, accusing its director of distorting history by showing Muslim ruler Alauddin Khilji as the “lover” of Queen Padmavati, belonging to the Rajput Hindu warrior clan.

“This was an unprecedented and tough situation,” Prasoon Joshi, chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), said in an email. “Am glad that following a balanced approach we resolved the task at hand in a pragmatic and positive manner.”

The board asked that the name of the film be changed to “Padmavat”, to reflect that the source material was an epic poem of the same name and not from actual historical events, Joshi said.

He added that the producers and director had been asked to run a disclaimer saying the movie does not “claim historical accuracy”, and that they were “completely in agreement” with the suggestions.

Viacom18 Motion Pictures, the studio behind the movie, did not respond to a request for comment. It earlier said the film captured “Rajput valor, dignity and tradition in all its glory”.

The film stars popular actress Deepika Padukone, who was the target of Rajput groups who were against its release. A BJP politician was ordered to apologize publicly by his party after he offered a reward for anyone who beheaded Padukone for her portrayal of Queen Padmavati.

Despite the suggested modifications by a special committee, a group that says it represents Rajputs vowed on Saturday to keep protesting against the movie.

“We had given a whole list of objections regarding the movie,” Ajit Singh, president of Rajput Karni Sena, told Reuters.

“The decision has been taken in haste and only a few cuts to the movie will not do justice to the history and legend of the person. We will continue our protests.”

Sixers captain Henriques takes a break from the BBL

Sydney Sixers’ captain Moises Henriques has taken a break from the ongoing Big Bash League, with no date set for his return.

The seam-bowling allrounder played the first two matches of the season for Sixers before missing the third because of illness. “The Sydney Sixers advise that Moises Henriques will be taking some personal leave from the BBL,” a statement from the team said. “He will return when he feels ready to continue in the tournament. Out of respect for Moises’ privacy, the club will not make any further comment.”

Henriques’ absence is a major blow to the Sixers, who have lost all their three matches so far. He is their most experienced player, with 1235 runs and 23 wickets in 55 matches.

Allrounder Johan Botha, who had led the Sixers in place of Henriques on Thursday against Adelaide Strikers at the SCG, might continue to stand-in as captain.

Rooftop restaurant fire in Mumbai kills 14 during birthday party

MUMBAI (Reuters) – Fire swept through a rooftop restaurant in the Indian financial hub of Mumbai early on Friday, killing at least 14 people, most of them women attending a birthday party, including the celebrant who had just turned 28, police and family said.

The fire department received a call about the blaze in a commercial building in the Kamala Mills district around 3 in the morning, an official said.

“The fire brigade and police are investigating the cause of the fire, but we still don’t know how it started,” a senior police officer told Reuters.

Kamala Mills is home to several corporate offices and is a major night life district, with several high-end pubs and restaurants opening up in recent years.

The fire started at 1 Above, a popular bar-restaurant on the top floor, which engulfed the whole building in less than 30 minutes, media reported.

Several media outlets also use the compound for their offices and the offices of at least three national news channels suffered damage.

“The magnitude of the fire was huge, disrupting our operations temporarily. All our employees were evacuated safely,” the Times Network said in a press release.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences.

“Anguished by the fire in Mumbai. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. I pray that those injured recover quickly,” the PM’s Office tweeted.

Reports of actress Nargis Fakhri moving in with Uday Chopra at his Juhu bungalow in Mumbai were recently doing the rounds. Some even alleged that the duo is getting hitched next year.

However, according to the latest report, the actress is in Mumbai for work commitments and will head back to New York by the end of the week. After meeting the Chopras and partying with friends, she reportedly left for a shoot at a suburban studio.

The report further states that the ‘Banjo’ actress is in the city for a brief period as she has meetings scheduled with a music label for her single with American rapper-singer, Snoop Dogg. She will also attend few meetings for other upcoming projects. Nargis is in fact reportedly based out of New York and not Mumbai.

After being in an on and off relationship Nargis and Uday reportedly called it quits last year. However, the two still maintain a cordial relationship with each other.

Glenn Phillips presents case for ODI call-up

New Zealand’s 47-run win in the first T20I in Nelson was studded with stellar individual performances, but the standout moment was Glenn Phillips‘ outstanding catch behind the stumps to dismiss Chris Gayle.

Running back from his wicketkeeping position, Phillips had passed the 30-yard circle when he dived forward at full length to complete the take. “I didn’t know where it went to start with,” Phillips said after the game. “I just started running back and then hoped that the two guys either side weren’t going to run into me. I just put out the big mitt and hoped that it stuck, and it did.

“It’s an interesting situation because none of us actually called for it. When the sky is a bit blue like that, sometimes you don’t have anything to gauge it on. But the ball has a shimmer around it, so you just sort of hope you catch it, and thankfully I did today.”

That dismissal sent West Indies into freefall in their chase, and Phillips played a big role in it. He went on to take two more catches – including a diving take to his right to intercept a thick edge from Rovman Powell – and effected a stumping.

Playing in just his fourth T20I, Phillips was filling in for the rested Tom Latham behind the stumps. With a sparkling show with the bat too – he made a 40-ball 55 that set New Zealand up for a strong total – Phillips may have given New Zealand’s selectors the option of playing Latham as a specialist batsman in the limited-over formats.

The first sign of Phillips being considered for the 50-over format came earlier in the season, when he was picked in the New Zealand A squad for the tour of India. He finished the series as New Zealand A’s highest run-getter, including a top score of 140 not out. That earned him a berth in the T20 international squad for the three matches in India. “The desire would definitely be to go into that one-day format, and then, if the Test stuff ever happens one day, then I’d definitely relish the challenge,” he said.

Phillips comes with the reputation of being a destroyer of attacks in domestic cricket. He was the leading run-scorer in the 2016-17 Super Smash, New Zealand’s domestic T20 tournament, where he made 369 runs in 10 innings at an average of 46.12 and strike-rate of 143.02 in his first season.

On Saturday, he showed not just brutal hitting abilities, but also tactical nous as he consolidated to ensure West Indies didn’t dominate. Phillips said that there were areas of his game he had to still work on. “I wouldn’t say me playing slowly early on was intentional. It was just that I wasn’t able to hit a boundary. But my finding ones needs to improve, that is what I want to try and improve at in the nets.

“We would have been under a lot more pressure [if not for that final over off which Kesrick Williams conceded 25]. That could have made it 160 and that would have been a bit of an under-par total. We were aiming for 170 after we went through the first six overs, and we thought if we got 170, then anything over that would be good. If we had only got 160, then they would have been in with a bigger sniff.”

Fire in India’s financial capital kills at least 12

MUMBAI (Reuters) – At least 12 people died and three were critically injured in a late night fire at a multi-storey building in India’s financial capital Mumbai, local authorities said on Friday.

The majority of those killed were women attending a birthday party at a rooftop restaurant, police said. The 28-year-old woman celebrating her birthday was among those who died, her grandfather told Reuters.

The fire department received a call about the blaze in a commercial building in the Kamala Mills compound in Central Mumbai around 0030 local time (1900 GMT) on Friday, an official said.

Kamala Mills, a refurbished industrial compound, houses swanky restaurants and other commercial establishments.

The fire in the building started on the top floor and engulfed the structure in less than 30 minutes, local media reported.

Several media outlets also use the compound for their offices and at least three national news channels were affected by the fire, including Bennett Coleman and Co’s Times Now and ET Now.

Meridian iOS 10.3.3 Jailbreak for 64-bit Devices is on its Way [Video]

Those with a 64-bit iPhone or iPad running iOS 10.3.3 will be pleased to learn that a new jailbreak is headed their way called Meridian.

Meridian iOS 10.3.3 Gets Demoed on Video. Works on 64-bit Devices.

A few days back, H3lix was released for 32-bit devices, allowing those on iOS 10.3.3 to finally liberate their devices from the shackles of Apple’s walled garden. But of course, there was no 64-bit support at all, which meant those with an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6s etc. weren’t able to take any advantage of the solution. Today, there’s good news for those on iOS 10.3.3 once again as a new jailbreak called Meridian has been teased on Twitter that finally lets you jailbreak 64-bit devices on the aforementioned firmware.

jailbreak-libertv-tvos-11-1-mainRelated How to Jailbreak tvOS 11.0 – tvOS 11.1 on Apple TV 4 / 4K Using LiberTV

Meridian has been a work in progress for a long, long time, and now it appears as though things have shaped up quite nicely if the new demo is anything to go by. But the only hiccup in this particular jailbreak is that it works on iOS 10.3.3, which in itself is a deal-breaking for 64-bit devices as they all support iOS 11, and many have highly likely updated to that firmware right now. Still, if you were courageous enough to stay put on iOS 10.3.3 in the hope for a jailbreak then you will be rewarded very, very soon. Check out the demo below and feel excited.

At this point in time there’s no ETA when the full and final version of the jailbreak will arrive. But eventually, it will. At first, it will be closed source for quite some time until the first public beta drops. Of course, we don’t have an ETA for that either. We will update our readers whenever we have more information at hand. Until then, you have some good news and a video to go along with it.

WI grapple with the loss of Pollard, Narine and Samuels

Posted Posted by Admin in News     Comments Comments Off on WI grapple with the loss of Pollard, Narine and Samuels
Dec

Big Picture

They are the world champions in this format, but will this depleted squad cut it against a rampant New Zealand? A small galaxy of T20 stars has not made the trip. Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine have pulled out due to personal reasons. Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy are at odds with the board. Marlon Samuels was withdrawn due to injury.

While Chris Gayle and ace legspinner Samuel Badree are present, West Indies still have the potential to blow the opposition away, but they haven’t exactly left themselves with the best possible chance of ending New Zealand’s five-match winning streak on this tour. The visitors are relying on the lesser-known agents of firepower – the likes of Andre Fletcher, and Shimron Hetmyer – and on the sudden exuberance that seems to invade their cricket when they switch to the shortest format.

The hosts are somewhat depleted themselves – Kane Williamson being rested for the first T20, leaving Tim Southee to lead the side. Trent Boult – unstoppable in the ODIs – is also being given a two-match break. New Zealand will be wary of West Indies’ reputation, but not worried just yet, so emphatically have they turned home conditions to their favour in the last few weeks.

Form guide

New Zealand LWLLW (completed matches, most recent first)
West Indies WWWWW

In the spotlight

Although Carlos Brathwaite‘s form has been patchy in domestic T20 tournaments, the captaincy appears to be treating him well at the top level. He averages 48 with the bat across five innings this year, though at a modest strike rate of 116. With the ball, he has consistently taken wickets, but even more importantly, West Indies are performing under his leadership, having won six of their last seven games. Most of those victories had come with Narine and Samuels in the XI, however. In going up against a strong home side with this particular squad, Brathwaite faces perhaps his sternest captaincy challenge yet.

There can be little question. Adam Milne is no longer the quickest bowler in New Zealand. That mantle has passed to Lockie Ferguson, who has been fast tracked into the national side, and is beginning to enjoy success at the top level. For now, he is getting wickets with pure pace, hitting the wickets before batsmen have a chance to play their shots, and prompting panicked fending with well-directed bouncers. Having seen him through the ODIs now, West Indies will feel themselves more capable of countering Ferguson in a format where the very quick bowlers can often be expensive.

Team news

With Williamson and Colin de Grandhomme (who left the country following the death of his father) unavailable, there may be opportunities for the likes of Anaru Kitchen and Tom Bruce. Ross Taylor’s return to the T20 XI may mean that those two players are competing for only one spot, however. Martin Guptill also comes back to the top of the order, after missing the ODIs due to injury.

New Zealand (probable): 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Colin Munro, 3 Ross Taylor, 4 Glenn Phillips (wk), 5 Henry Nicholls, 6 Tom Bruce, 7 Mitchell Santner, 8 Doug Bracewell, 9 Lockie Ferguson, 10 Tim Southee (capt.), 11 Ish Sodhi

Ronsford Beaton has returned home with a side strain, and with Pollard also having pulled out, West Indies’ XI is difficult to predict. They have plenty of options: three potential wicketkeepers and a number of allrounders gracing their squad. Sheldon Cottrell – the left-arm quick who had success in the ODIs – may get his chance to shine in this format also.

West Indies (probable): 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Andre Fletcher, 3 Shimron Hetmyer, 4 Shai Hope (wk), 5 Jason Mohammed, 6 Rovman Powell, 7 Carlos Brathwaite (capt.), 8 Ashley Nurse, 9 Samuel Badree, 10 Jerome Taylor, 11 Kesrick Williams/Sheldon Cottrell

Pitch and conditions

The weather in Nelson is forecast to be dry for the duration of this match, with temperatures likely to reach the low 20 C range. Saxton Oval has never hosted a T20, but ODI scores of over 300 have occasionally been reached there.

Stats and trivia

  • West Indies have won seven T20Is and lost six under Brathwaite’s leadership. Each of those losses was against Pakistan.

  • Tim Southee is two dismissals short of becoming the second New Zealand bowler to 50 T20I wickets, after Nathan McCullum.

  • Of the 10 T20Is these sides have played, a staggering three have been tied. West Indies have twice won the super over, and New Zealand one bowl out, back in 2006.

Quotes

“Chris Gayle has been kept quiet so far on this tour of New Zealand but good players don’t stay quiet for too long so hopefully we can continue the way we’ve been bowling to him.”

New Zealand stand-in captain Tim Southee on neutralising a major threat

“Regardless of whether we win or lose we need to play like world champions. People in the Caribbean look to the T20 format for the success and feel good and we need to do that. If there’s added pressure then so be it. We have a legacy to carry on.”
Carlos Brathwaite wants his side to live up to reputation

Indian regulator says Axis results leaked, orders lender to investigate

Dec

MUMBAI (Reuters) – India’s market regulator ordered Axis Bank (AXBK.NS) on Wednesday to conduct an internal investigation into a suspected leak of financial information and to strengthen its handling of such data, as part of a probe into messages about company results being circulated on private WhatsApp groups.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) order comes after Reuters reported last month that Axis Bank was among 12 companies where messages about quarterly results or other key financial details had circulated through private WhatsApp chatrooms before their official release.

The information on Axis Bank, which included key metrics on bad loans and net interest margins, “were either identical or matched closely with the figures” except for one metric, the regulator said in the order, published on SEBI’s web site.

It concluded that this “could not have been possible without leakage of information from the persons who were privy to the information relating to financials prior to its official announcement.”

Axis, India’s third-largest private lender by assets, was ordered to submit a report to SEBI on steps it had taken within three months.

Axis Bank said it would work with SEBI to investigate the matter and take action as needed.

“The bank adheres to the highest norms of governance and reiterates its commitment to adequacy of processes, systems and controls, particularly to prevent unauthorised access to unpublished price sensitive information,” the lender said in a statement.

The Reuters report has sparked a broad SEBI investigation since last month, including raids on brokers’ homes last week that resulted in the confiscation of laptops and mobile phones.
